🏆 A Lamp, a Bowl, and a Competition
This week, Kevin and I went thrifting — three stops on the treasure trail: The Corner Cupboard (one of our new favorites), City Thrift (run by St. Vincent DePaul), and The Good Shepard Thrift.
The Good Shepard turned out to be a hidden gem for furniture, appliances, and home lighting. The store was spotless, everything was displayed beautifully, and the crew couldn’t have been friendlier. We chatted for a bit, and honestly — if you need furniture, go see them! It’s one of the cleanest and best-kept thrift stores we’ve visited. Be sure to visit them, they have a great mission, and are located at: 1115 E 3rd St, Dayton, OH 45402
City Thrift was my first visit there, and wow — it’s huge! I could have easily spent another hour exploring, but Kevin was ready to roll (and I get it). We found a mix of bargains, high-priced surprises, and plenty of fun. My only gripe? They don’t let you take your cart to your car; staff take it to the dock for pickup. I get that it’s about protecting the carts, but I have trust issues when my finds disappear from my line of sight! 😅 Overall, though, great experience — clean, well-organized, and a friendly team. Prices were all over the place, but that’s normal for thrifts. 945 S Edwin C Moses Blvd., Dayton, OH
Now for The Corner Cupboard — and our competition. 504 Xenia Avenue, Dayton, OH
The challenge: Who can buy one item that makes the biggest profit?
Kevin found a lamp. Yep, a lamp. Half off, too! Some people might call it ugly… others might call it unique. You decide. He paid just a couple of bucks for it.
Me? I found a bowl. A really lovely one. I think mine will sell first, even if it’s for a smaller profit. I paid about the same as Kevin and plan to list it for $30–$35 on Etsy or eBay.
Both pieces are still sitting in drafts — but soon they’ll be live.
So wish me luck… because I fully intend to win this round!
