Now, who has tried shopping live online for vintage treasures? Maybe fewer people—but I think that number is growing.
If you’ve never watched a live shopping show, picture a treasure hunt you can join from your couch. A seller holds up an item, tells you about it, shows the details, and answers questions while you watch. Depending on the show, you can bid in an auction or buy an item at a set price.
Live shopping is bringing a lot of new people into the online treasure hunt. According to Whatnot, more than 650,000 people join its platform each week—that’s over 92,000 a day on average. Of course, they aren’t all shopping for vintage, but it shows how many people are discovering this way to shop.
For vintage lovers, that’s part of the fun. You don’t always know what will come out of the next box or appear on the shelf behind the seller. It might be a piece of pottery, a quirky kitchen find, a stack of old CDs, or the exact thing you remember from your grandmother’s house.
Whatnot is one place to explore. You can browse live and upcoming shows by category, search for something specific, and bookmark a show so you can find it again. eBay Live is another option, with sellers showing and selling items in real time. I’ve been trying live selling myself on both platforms. It has been a learning experience, and I’m still figuring out which items and show formats work best for BackRoadPicking.
