Yesterday, the hubby and I spent the day doing one of our favorite things: wandering through antique stores, a flea market, and of course, a quick pit stop at Rural King (his happy place). We weren’t on the hunt for anything in particular—just soaking in the joy of the find.
We’re collectors, sellers, and in our own small way… keepers of history. Each item we come across once belonged to someone. It might’ve been cherished or merely decorative. But each one has a story—and that’s what keeps me coming back. I love knowing the why behind a piece. Who used it? Where did it sit in their home? Was it part of a celebration? Or simply a lovely thing that made someone smile every day?
Yesterday’s treasure? A pair of purple slag glass candlesticks. I adore purple—right up there with calming ocean blues. These candlesticks are now proudly displayed on the buffet in our home, which I’ve unofficially dubbed “the purple corner.” It also features a Hazel Atlas divided server (currently holding candy), a vintage Hall teapot, and a wonderfully quirky blue pig I won on Whatnot.
This little space brings me so much joy. And when I’m ready for a change, I’ll swap purple for blue, or maybe mix in something entirely unexpected. That’s the beauty of collecting—you get to curate happiness, and it’s allowed to change.
Of course, sometimes we sell it. Sometimes we gift it. But always… we love it while it’s here.
And just for fun, I snapped a few photos of my flamingos, my office llama, the ducks, the blue pig, and even my Loretta Lynn poster. Because collections don’t have to be big—they just have to make you smile.
Now I’m curious—what do you collect? Do you rotate your favorites, or keep them on display for years? Do you tuck little treasures into nooks and crannies, or make a statement with a shelf full of joy?
Leave a comment. Tell me your story. I’d love to know what brings you a little extra happiness.
